Who Breathizen Is For, and Who Should Skip It

Written by the Breathizen editorial team · Last updated · 7 min read · Medical review below

Quick answerBreathizen is sold for adults 18 and over who want simple daily breathing-comfort support. It is not for children. People with asthma or COPD must keep their prescribed medicine and ask a doctor first. Ask first too if you take blood thinners or diabetes medicine, are allergic to pineapple, or are pregnant or nursing. Smokers gain far more from quitting.

Good fit

Who is Breathizen made for?

Breathizen is sold for adults 18 and over. The clearest fit is an adult without a serious lung condition who wants a small daily habit for breathing comfort.

It also suits people who prefer a spray to pills. You should be fine with limited evidence, since no trial of the spray has been published. And you should be ready to judge it fairly over a few weeks. Our benefits page spells out what it can and cannot do.

By situation

Who fits, and who should check first?

A quick guide by situation. Your own doctor's advice always comes first.

Smokers

Are there lung supplements for smokers that work?

No supplement has been shown to repair smoking damage. That includes Breathizen. Products sold as a lung cleanse for smokers make a promise the science does not support.

Quitting is what changes the picture. It improves health at any age and lowers the risk of lung disease (CDC, Benefits of quitting). Your lungs also clear themselves, and they do it better once the smoke stops (American Lung Association, lung detox).

If you smoke and want to try the spray, fine. Just pair it with a quit plan, not in place of one. Free coaching is available at 1-800-QUIT-NOW. We cover the cleanse claims in detail in can you detox your lungs?

Lung conditions

Can people with COPD or asthma use it?

Only with their doctor's okay, and never in place of treatment. COPD is a long-term lung disease. It is treated with medicines, pulmonary rehab and quitting smoking (NHLBI, COPD).

With asthma, your written action plan sets your daily medicine and what to do when symptoms get worse (NHLBI, Asthma Action Plan). A supplement has no place in that plan unless your doctor adds it.

Bring the bottle to your next visit. The amounts are not published, so the full ingredient list is what your doctor has to go on.

Children

Are there lung supplements for kids?

Breathizen is not one of them. It is sold for adults 18 and over only, and no part of the label covers children.

A child with a lasting cough, wheeze, noisy breathing or shortness of breath needs a pediatrician. Those signs have many causes, and some need prompt treatment. Keep the bottle closed and out of reach of children.

Skip it if

Who will probably be disappointed?

Some buyers expect more than any supplement can give. Knowing that up front saves money and frustration.

People who want a treatment

If you hope to replace an inhaler, calm a flare or fix a diagnosed disease, this is the wrong product. It is a dietary supplement, not a medicine.

People who want every amount printed

No milligram figures and no Supplement Facts panel were supplied to us. If full disclosure matters most, read the panel on a bottle first. Our ingredients page lists the gaps.

People who want quick, felt change

The bottle says fast-acting, but nothing measured that. Plan on a few weeks of steady use before you judge.

Medicines

What should older adults and people on several medicines know?

Our files set no upper age limit. Still, older adults tend to take more prescriptions, and that raises the chance of an interaction.

The two to watch are cordyceps and bromelain. Cordyceps may affect blood sugar and bleeding. Bromelain can upset the stomach. A pharmacist can check the ingredient list against your medicine list in a few minutes, often at no cost.

Ask first

Who should talk to a doctor first?

Several groups should get a yes from a doctor or pharmacist before the first spray. Take the bottle with you.

Blood thinners

Cordyceps may raise bleeding risk with warfarin and similar drugs (MSKCC, Cordyceps).

Diabetes medicine

Cordyceps may lower blood sugar. Together with medicine, sugar could drop too far.

Pineapple allergy

Bromelain comes from pineapple. It can also upset the stomach (NCCIH, Bromelain).

Pregnancy or nursing

Amounts are not published, so your doctor cannot weigh the dose. Ask before you start.

Any lung condition

Asthma, COPD, bronchitis or anything else: your care plan comes first.

Sensitive mouth or throat

Ginger can cause heartburn and mouth or throat irritation (NCCIH, Ginger).

Warning signs

When is a supplement the wrong answer?

Get care now

Call 911 for sudden or severe shortness of breath, chest pain, bluish lips or face, confusion, or breathing trouble that does not ease. These are emergency signs (MedlinePlus, Breathing difficulty) (MedlinePlus, Breathing difficulties: first aid).

New or worsening breathlessness over days or weeks also needs a doctor. Do not wait to see if a supplement helps.

Three rules for everyone

  • Keep your inhaler and prescribed medicine exactly as directed
  • Never inhale, vape or smoke the spray or its herbs
  • Stop the spray and call your doctor if any reaction occurs

The side effects page lists every caution in one place.

FAQ

Who it's for: questions people ask

Who should use Breathizen?

Adults 18 and over who want an easy daily spray for breathing comfort, and who accept that the evidence is limited. Anyone with a lung condition should ask a doctor first.

Who should not use Breathizen?

Children and teens, anyone allergic to pineapple, ginger or mushrooms, and anyone who would use it in place of prescribed medicine. Ask first if you are pregnant, nursing or on blood thinners or diabetes medicine.

Are there lung supplements for kids?

Breathizen is for adults only, so it is not one. A child with a cough, wheeze or breathing trouble should see a pediatrician, who can check the cause.

Can smokers use Breathizen?

Adult smokers can, after checking the label, but it will not undo smoking damage. Quitting does more for your lungs than any supplement.

Do lung supplements for smokers work?

None has been shown to repair smoking damage or clean out the lungs. Quitting lowers the risk of lung disease at any age, and free help is available.

What are the lung supplements for COPD?

No supplement treats COPD. Medicines, pulmonary rehab and quitting smoking do. If you have COPD, ask your lung doctor before adding Breathizen.

If I have asthma, can I use Breathizen?

Only alongside your prescribed treatment and with your doctor's okay. Keep your inhaler and follow your asthma action plan.

Can I use Breathizen while pregnant or breastfeeding?

Ask your doctor first. The amounts of its five extracts are not published, and safety data in pregnancy are limited for several of them.

Can I take Breathizen with blood thinners?

Ask your doctor first. Cordyceps may raise bleeding risk with warfarin and other blood thinners, and it may lower blood sugar.

Can older adults use Breathizen?

There is no upper age limit in our files. Older adults often take more medicines, so a pharmacist check of the label is a good first step.
